Film-making
We are one of the few schools in East Anglia and possibly in the U.K that offer this subject within our weekly timetable. This is a playful and popular way of using digital media to produce drama and factual film works. A key focus of this subject is communication. Our school is truly International (in one class of sixteen pupils we have children who can speak fourteen different languages) and film is the perfect medium to connect children from these countries because speech is not the only means to convey and understand emotions and ideas. Pupils learn to use digital cameras, green screen and editing software to produce live action films or animation which entertain and inform. From the outside it can look like mayhem and far too much fun for the lesson to be educational, but most of what is learnt is from hands-on experience, physical communication and practice. Over the years pupils have been involved with filming school events and producing films for parents across a wide range of subject matters to help refine their production techniques.
All the skills learnt during their KS4 years are fine tuned when pupils decide to take the AQA GCSE Media Studies single or double award.
