01 Mar A Spanish Twist to the Story
On Wednesday 28th February, The Infants and Juniors were treated to a visit from Freshwater Theatre Company for an interactive Spanish storytelling session. The performance was part of the school’s World Book Day celebrations and helped the children learn about the art of storytelling, not just in their own language, but in foreign ones as well.
The children were completely immersed in Spanish as they helped tell the stories of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. Through the use of actions, props and repetition they were able to recognise, understand and join in with the story-telling. All the children were captivated as these well-known stories were bought to life. Some comments from the children are:
“The best bit was the marching and the giant” – Curtis (Reception)
“I really enjoyed it – best show ever!” – Lorenzo (year 4)
” I could understand most of the story, even though it was in Spanish!” – Lucile (year 5)
The event provided a wonderful opportunity to take stories out of the classroom and show how we can communicate through actions and words to get a message across.
