EDoL Meets Charity Bake Off

We combined European Day of Languages with Macmillan Coffee Morning

Yesterday, we celebrated European Day of Languages with language activities and a bake-off with cakes representing students’ home countries. The cakes were enjoyed during a coffee morning for students and parents, with donations going to Macmillan, as part of their coffee morning campaign.

The languages’ activities included a picture bingo race, talking about noises in different languages and learning tongue-twisters in French, Spanish and Italian. Using hilarious props, they presented their tongue-twister TV shows, with prizes going to the best ones!

Students who were feeling a bit more artistic attempted the ‘Design a European Languages Day tee-shirt’ competition. It is a national competition and our entries look amazing! Students who felt very competitive headed to the IT room to use Quizlet Live – a series of quizzes on European flags, key facts about the EU, as well as words in different languages.

Last, but not least, students could participate in another national competition which was creative writing on the theme ‘magical trip’, where they had to write in English, while incorporating another language in their essays – special mention to Rafay for his entry.

The students had a very enjoyable time and, once again, events like this truly reflect what a unique and inclusive school CIS is.
