11 Oct National Poetry Day 2019
‘If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.’ Mark Twain
On Wednesday 2nd October, we celebrated National Poetry Day and the theme this year was ‘Truth’.
Students had spent the previous week studying a poem on truth and gave a rehearsed reading to the school during the assembly. Every student gave a comment on how the poet achieved their effects using language, imagery and rhyme.
The English Department challenged the students to write their own poem about Truth. We were delighted with the enthusiasm and creativity of all the students and the poems were of a very high standard. Members of Drama Workshop performed dramatic interpretations of the winning poems to the delight and appreciation of our students and staff.
Congratulations to all the winning poets and thank you to everyone who contributed to a memorable and joyful celebration of poetry.
