CIS Nursery – Where your child’s learning voyage sets sail……

Our new, warm and welcoming Nursery will be located in the Early Years area of the Primary School.  This will allow children from 2 – 4 years old the space to grow and thrive in a stimulating environment whilst providing the best introduction to learning.  There will be two classes, one for 2 – 3 year olds and one for 3 – 4 year olds, allowing the children to have an age appropriate routine which will encourage your child to seek new challenges in a safe and caring environment.

Your child will be supervised and cared for by experienced and fully qualified Early Years Carers and overseen by our Nursery Supervisor who has worked at CIS for almost 10 years.  All carers are also experienced in working with children who have English as a Second Language

The Nursery Aims

To give each child a happy, positive, nurturing and fun start to their school life in which they can establish solid foundations on which to expand and foster a deep love of lifelong learning

To offer each child a wide range of new and exciting experiences and give them the opportunity to consolidate, explore and test them out along with their own, individual experiences

To enable each child, through encouragement and high expectations, to develop, to the full, socially, physically, intellectually, spiritually and emotionally.

Curriculum

We provide high quality, purposefully planned play opportunities that enable children to develop and flourish. We place equal importance on both the inside and outside environments and ensure that each area stimulates the children’s imaginations. Our spacious learning environments enable children to be active learners, become independent and develop creative and critical thinking skills.  We introduce the skills to prepare them for reading writing, maths, science and many other areas of school life.  The Nursery provision has full access to all the facilities of the Primary School and they have time each week with specialist Sport, Music and Spanish teachers.

We follow the areas of Learning and Development identified in Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Learning Journeys

As soon as your child starts in our Nursery we begin a ‘Learning Journey’ for them. This is a special book containing photographs, examples of things they have drawn or made, and observations made by staff as well as any contributions you as parents/carers have made. They are a really lovely way of recording your child’s first years!

Learning Journeys are available for parents/carers to have a look at any time and provide an insight into what your child’s interests are whilst at CIS, what they have been learning as well as how your child is developing their skills, knowledge and understanding.

Smooth Transition into Reception

Nursery children start their Reception education the academic year in which they are 5 years old.  We work with parents / carers to ensure a supportive and smooth transition into full time education.

With transition, children will respond in different ways, some with confidence, and others with more apprehension. Children’s confidence will be enhanced when changes happen gradually and when time is prioritised to support these transitions with sensitive planning and preparation. Therefore, we include a wide range of supportive and independent activities to cater for all needs.
