Forest School and Outdoor Learning

Cherry Hinton Park provides the perfect outdoor space for our children to enjoy and the new redevelopment ensures that the Nursery and School integrates with this beautiful setting, whilst retaining its unique and historical character.

The school will have a new centrally enclosed early learning courtyard which will provide a fun and inspiring activity space for the nursery children.  This will be linked with the internal teaching spaces and the new covered outdoor classroom.  The new ‘Giant’s Garden’ linked to Cherry Hinton Brook will offer further opportunities to extend the outdoor learning.

All nursery children partake in Forest School.  This provides an opportunity for children to experience nature and the outdoor environment, in a safe, secure and hands-on way. Building a sense of high self-esteem, confidence and independence are all fostered through our Forest School programme.

During sessions, children experience all sorts of woodland activities that help them to build an understanding and appreciation of the woodland. The activities are always achievable yet challenging – encouraging children to estimate risk and take responsibility for themselves, others and the environment.

The nursery children also have the opportunities to experience the world outside Cherry Hinton Hall with our programme of exciting trips out that tie into out termly topics.  Recent trips include Audley End House, Shepreth Wildlife Park and Wimpole Farm.
